 A care home oral health assessment involves a visual and verbal evaluation of a resident's mouth, including their lips, tongue, gums, and teeth, as well as their ability to manage their own oral care. This is recommended to be done upon admission and regularly afterwards to identify any issues, such as decay, infections, or poor hygiene, and to determine the level of support needed. The assessment helps in creating a personalised care plan to maintain the resident's oral health and to refer for further care as necessary. Oral health assessments do not include the provision of dental treatment. We are, however, able to provide private prescriptions for active oral infections and disease, and place or prescribe fluoride containing products to promote and maintain good oral health. 

A personalised oral care plan is created with tailored advice and recommendations based on the oral health assessment. This may include a private prescription where required for active oral infections or disease and to promote and maintain oral health.
